Dr. Claire Heckel is the Project Coordinator for the "People Not Property" project will provide an overview of the Digital Library on American Slavery (DLAS), with a focus on the latest component of the project "People Not Property: Slave Deeds of North Carolina." The resources in the DLAS provide insights into African American histories and experiences, and examples will be provided that illustrate the potential of these valuable resources. As a public history project, "People Not Property" is a community effort that relies on the participation of volunteer researchers. This talk will invite the audience to get involved and provide an orientation to the process of volunteering with the project.
