When: Wednesday, January 17th from 2pm-3pm

Presenter:  Noah Lenstra, Assistant professor of Library and Information Studies at the University of North Carolina - Greensboro

Description: This interactive webinar advances the idea that when we talk about reference we should be talking about technology support. Based on a year-long study of adult services desks at three public libraries, this webinar will prepare you to embed tech support into your library's reference and information services.

Noah's research found that reference librarians are reluctant to help patrons learning new technology, and that they employ a variety of strategies to avoid providing tech support at the reference desk. By re-imagining reference as tech support, we can enable librarians to provide needed help for individuals learning a technology with which they are unfamiliar.

The webinar concludes with an interactive discussion about how to incorporate technology support into the work of reference and information services librarians, whether at a public library, academic library or in another setting.
