Library Supervisor - Technical Services

Forsyth County Government
Location (City, State):
Winston-Salem, NC

Come join us as the Technical Services Library Supervisor at the new Central Library!
A Library's Integrated Library System is embedded in the fabric of providing library service to the public. Within the ILS system are records for all library cardholders and all library material holdings for the library system. With the migration to the NC Cardinal Evergreen consortium, the Forsyth County Public Library no longer has an ILS that operates independently, but works in cooperation with 30 consortial member libraries. Managing the accuracy and currency of these records is paramount and managing the Technical Services staff is key to getting the job done well. The Technical Services Supervisor must have an excellent grasp of technology and a full understanding of the capabilities of library automated systems. This knowledge must range from the larger consortial picture to drilling down to the specifics of data retrieval for statistics and reports. This person must be able to understand the ILS system with its numerous report features and specific categories of data. The Technical Services Supervisor also manages the workflow for the acquisitions process from entering "On Order" items into the library catalog to ensuring that materials are shelf-ready and on library shelves in a timely manner. Indeed, library customers are savvy enough to know the "lay down date" of bestseller titles and expect them to be on the shelves of all ten locations by that day and release hour. This position/department is responsible for cataloging all library materials, and it is preferred that the selected candidate have experience in cataloging. The Technical Services Supervisor must have the ability to work well with library staff at all levels of the organization. They serve on several systemwide committees including Collection Development, Technology, Web and Heads.
