The Wilson County Public Library Board of Directors is seeking a dynamic, skilled individual to lead the Library's strong commitment to user service and to the development of a range of lifelong learning platforms- physical and virtual. The Director will advance the WCP Library's role in community efforts to develop a vision for Wilson's future in today's digital world.
Our new Director will lead a dedicated staff of 33 at the main library and the 5 branches. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills are essential for positive staff and public relations. The Director interacts closely with an active Friends group as well as a highly supportive Board of Trustees. We seek a Director who understands that the WCPL's success is impacted by the dynamics between the Library and local politics and governance.( Experience interacting with local government is a plus.) Our Director should have financial management experience, technological skills, as well as the ability to be flexible and thrive in a complex and changing environment. Finally, we seek a friendly, visionary leader with the common sense necessary to successfully manage the day to day running of the Library.
In accordance with the Library's Mission Statement, strategic direction and policies established by the Board of Trustees and the County Commissioners and Administration, the Director provides executive leadership and management over the Wilson County Public Library, and associated branch libraries. The Director must be significantly engaged with the community, library users, and all other local organizations seeking to foster knowledge, and innovation to foster a vital future for our community.
The Director will actively build upon the high level of customer service at the WCPL. The Director will give priority to developing a wide range of learning platforms, including user led experiences; digital and virtual platforms; as well as to facilitating access to rapidly changing technological innovations for our community.
Executive and administrative leadership over the WCPL and 5 branches
Works with the Board of Trustees to develop policies, financial and facility planning, strengthen community ties, and other related library work.
Works under the County Administration and County Commissioners to refine and develop policies, sets and reviews goals as necessary to improve department efficiency.
Community Relations: Actively seeks opportunities for collaboration with community organizations; serves on county boards and committees. Advises and supports The Friends of the Library. Uses all forms of media to strengthen and promote the Library within the community.
Assigns, directs and supervises activities of all library employees and volunteers in all their activities; resolves problems as non-routine situations arise.
Administers or makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates as required by County Management.
Organizes and coordinates all of the staffs' activities and assists as necessary.
Oversees the acquisition of all library resources based on the community needs and budget limitations and maintains records of dispensations.
The Director executes all phases of the budget process from proposals to presentation for approval by the County Commissioners. The Finance Department, other county employees, and the Board of Directors work with the Director, as appropriate, during the process.
Performs other work as required, including preparation of statistical and narrative reports.
Oversees maintenance of all physical property including the building, and all equipment associated with the Library.
Master's in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or from a regionally accredited school of higher learning
Have or be eligible to have a North Carolina Librarian Certificate
3 or more years of public library experience
Special Requirement: Valid Driver's license in the State of North Carolina
