Division Information:
The State Library of North Carolina is the principal library of state government, with a mission to build the capacity of all libraries in North Carolina and to provide access to specialized collections for its residents. The State Library is comprised of three major programs: The Government & Heritage Library (GHL), the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, and Library Development.

The GHL provides services and information related to North Carolina government, history, demographics, statistics, and cultural heritage. It is the permanent repository for state agency publications and collects, preserves, and provides public access to current and historical state publications in print and digital formats. The GHL consists of two units, Content and Information Delivery (reference, access, education and outreach, and digital information management services), and Content Management and Access (cataloging, collection development, State Publications Clearinghouse, and acquisitions). The GHL is a member of NC Cardinal, a consortium of North Carolina public libraries that share an online catalog and integrated library system (ILS), and share resources with member libraries.

Description of Work:
The Government & Heritage Library (GHL) seeks an energetic, strategic, enthusiastic, and organized Collection Management Librarian. The candidate in this position will:
Have a forward-thinking and strategic perspective on new and emerging trends in collection development. Lead and coordinate development and implementation of the GHL's collection policies and strategies. Explore new ways to serve users throughout the state with digital resources.
Lead and supervise a team of three in ongoing collection related tasks and projects (i.e. acquisitions, materials processing, binding, book repair, shifting, shelf reading, shelving).
Monitor the book budget to ensure all monies are spent by the end of the fiscal year.
Serve as the GHL acquisitions expert, manage the p-card, develop vendor relationships, set-up database trials. Adhere to State of North Carolina procurement policies and work with administrative team to negotiate pricing and process licenses for electronic resources.
Manage collection development projects (i.e. weeding two vertical file collections and consolidating them into one collection, work on developing the newly formed North Carolina collection in the public space, direct small weeding projects). Function as the main contact for collection donations.
Create a preservation plan for the GHL's print collections (State and Federal publications, rare books, and general collection materials).
Undertake assessments to develop and preserve collections in support of the GHL's priorities.
Actively participate on the GHL leadership team.
Provide in-person and virtual customer assistance, which includes occasional Saturday work, and occasional evening work for special events, presentations, or conferences.
Occasional travel is required.

To qualify for this position, you must meet ALL the following KSAs listed below. If no one meets the advanced skill set management may consider someone who is at a journey level.
Knowledge of collection assessment and/or development
Skill with organizing and leading teams
Ability to supervise a work unit
Demonstrated ability to organize projects, including goal setting, determining benchmarks and meeting deadlines.
Demonstrated skill with tools used for data manipulation, analysis, and/or visualization (e.g. Excel, Access, Tableau).
Ability to write procedures, guidelines, reports, and/or workflows.
Demonstrated skill with delivering individual and/or group training.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
Must be able to work with library materials that may include dust or mold.
Management Preferences:
Grant writing experience
Strong interest in NC history, government, and culture
Experience managing a budget
Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Master's degree in library and information science or a related discipline
Equivalent combination of training and experience.
Degree must be received from appropriately accredited (ALA) institutions or regionally accredited programs in North Carolina.
