Fontana is a regional public library system with six member libraries and one bookmobile. Macon County has a population of 34,000 in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina and is home to numerous outdoor activities including hiking, whitewater sports, and mountain biking, as well as many other tourist attractions. Franklin is located just over an hour from Asheville shopping and airport and is close to Southwestern Community College and Western Carolina University. The Macon County Public Library is an award winning library completed in 2007.

The Macon County Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative, and energetic candidate to fill the position of Assistant County Librarian. Macon County Library is a member of Fontana Regional Library, a public library system with six member libraries and one bookmobile providing service in Jackson, Macon and Swain counties. The ideal candidate for the Assistant County Librarian will provide service with a friendly and helpful attitude and thrive in a rapidly changing environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES include assisting the County Librarian in the management, supervision, and administration of the libraries within the County. The Assistant County Librarian coordinates a wide variety of library services, oversees technical services activities, and participates in the development and delivery of public services. The Assistant County Librarian works cooperatively with staff throughout Fontana Regional Library to plan, implement, and evaluate long and short-term goals and objectives. QUALIFICATIONS required for the Assistant County Librarian include an
ALA- accredited Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science, three years’ public library experience, three years’ customer service experience, and two years’ supervisory experience. The successful candidate should be a creative self-starter with effective written and verbal communication skills; strong leadership skills; commitment to quality customer service and effective teamwork; good interpersonal skills; and a strong planning and information technology background. Experience with Friends of the Library organizations, local governing agencies, volunteer groups, and other community organizations will be helpful.
